Guilt Floats

I make a boat

Of my guilt

A little sailing ship of leaves and twigs

I set it free

In the river of time

It carries away

All the might-have-beens and shoulds

All the ways in which fear had me stuck

The ways in which

My ego can’t let go

The times I failed myself or you

My little ship of guilt,

May you burn

As brightly as a funeral pyre

Lighting the mermaid skies

Burning the old me free
