Either/Or

For all of you working a day job, too.

What if it’s not

Either/or,

What if it’s

And?

What if the two strands

Of my life—

Home and school

Passion and work

Writing and teaching—

Are not a choice,

But a combination?

If we truly can

Have it all

Despite the ancient programming

That runs chanting through my head,

Then maybe I don’t need to see

These things dichotomous,

But rather as

A bright braid weaving

My iridescent strands of life.
