Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy Meditation

It’s quite interesting. . . many of my posts start that way, don’t they?  Well, I do find it interesting that there is so much effort energy around meditation. “I can’t do it, I haven’t done it, I’m doing it wrong.”

What if everybody equated meditating with eating chocolate?  “Oh, I had a really rough day. I’m going to go home and treat myself to a meditation.” Or, “Yeah, Bob and I broke up. I’m doing a lot of meditating these days.”  Hmmm, has a different flavor, doesn’t it?

Here are some easy peasy lemon squeezy ways to meditate, if you choose to play with them.

  1. The Ahhh Breath: inhale deeply through your nose, pause, and exhale through your open mouth with the soft sound of Ahhh. Feel your breath release throughout your entire body as you exhale.
  2. The Gratitude Walk: Go for a walk outdoors. As you walk, connect with the Earth and talk to her. As you step out with your left foot, say or think, “Thank you.” As you step out with your right foot, say or think, “I appreciate you,” or “I love you.” Continue walking mindfully, repeating this mantra with each step, until you are ready to stop.
  3. The 10 Breath Exercise: Breathe in deeply through your nose, and exhale through your mouth with the sound of Ahhh. Then, just bring your awareness to your breath as you breathe in and out normally for a series of ten breath cycles.
  4. The “I Am Calm” Mini-Meditation: use the 10-breath exercise above. Each time you inhale, think “I am.” Each time you exhale, think “Calm.”

See? Meditation doesn’t have to be a big deal.

—Thanks to Sonia Choquette, Eve Appleton, and Joan Borysenko for introducing me to these meditation exercises.

Thank you, for the meditations tips. I have been telling myself I can’t do it, doing it wrong etc. I have the Silva program. Had it for a while and I have not really got into it. Have you followed it. Thank you again. Pam

    Hi Pam,
No, I don’t know that program. I do know that there are almost as many meditation teachers as there are stars in the sky. If you want to learn about different approaches to meditation, check out Joan Borysenko. Her work is both scientific and deeply humorous. Sonia Choquette and Doreen Virtue offer lovely guided meditations, which is one place to start. My teacher, Christine Agro has some youtube videos. And, of course, you can stay right here as I continue to post. Check the side bar for things posted in the “meditation” category.

I leave you with a final question/thought. When we want to do something but don’t, there is always a reason, and finding that reason is a moment of growth and expansion. So I ask, why aren’t you meditating? You might choose to ask your spirit that question and stay open to what information and insight floats by in the next few days. And, if you choose, come back and share what you learn.
    Love and light,

Alex – love these very doable approaches to meditation … thank you for the uplifting ideas for when someone is “on the run”, yet still needs the power of mediation! Bet, many if not most, ever considered these quick steps as forms of meditation.

    Well, you gotta start somewhere!
