Be Your Own Guru

If I heal you,

Then,

Next time you are ill

You will call me.

If I teach you,

Then,

Next time you are confused

You will ask me.

If I lead you,

Then,

Next time you are lost

You will wait for me.

If I refuse

To heal, teach, lead,

You may be angry.

But then,

Just maybe,

You will see what I really am

And choose to be

Your own guru.

Applause! Alix, being a volunteer has taught me how seldom we need to help another person and how when we do, we may be depriving them of a chance to grow. I have really had to look at my motivation for the work I am doing. This poem spells it out so beautifully. Thanks! pat
