Why Is There Pain in the World?

I keep getting the same message over and over in different words.  This poem was given to me recently on a trip to the Temple of Knowledge.

That We May Know

So we are damaged

That we may know we are whole.

So we are defiled

That we may know we are pure.

So we are stoned

            That we may rise again.

Except that

We are the stone.

And now

Is the same as gone.

It’s still us

Trying to know that we are worthy.

Seems like we spend a life time trying to feel worthy. I have never understood why this is so. One could blame parents, society, etc., but perhaps it goes much deeper. Much to ponder in your poem, as always. Thanks! hugs, pat
